Ashley Wood of Fairfax was named to the dean's list at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. To qualify, students must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. She was also inducted to the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and into The National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is the daughter of Mary E. Wood and Roger D. Wood of Fairfax.
Marymount University senior Cindy R. Jones of Fairfax has been awarded a $500 scholarship by Delta Mu Delta, the national honor society in business administration. Jones is on course to graduate from Marymount with a bachelor of Business Administration, with a concentration in Human Resources, in December 2004. Jones is the fourth Marymount student to receive one of these prestigious scholarships.
Francisco Javier Canizales of Fairfax graduated from Western Carolina University on May 8, 2004. Canizales received a bachelor of science degree in natural resource management.

George Mason University was awarded a $7,500 Operation Undergrad grant from the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The grant, for the 2004-05 academic year, is used to combat underage and binge drinking among college students.
