The Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) is hosting College for Kids, with day camps for all ages and interests.
* Academic Camp. Power Academy, for grades 1 through 8, focuses on developing English and math skills, but finds time for cultural history, art, basketball and soccer instruction as well. The four-week session is offered through Friday, Aug. 20. Students attend Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Magarette Le, a senior Girl Scout of Springfield, recently received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor achievable in Girl Scouting. To achieve this honor, Magarette and other volunteers worked with elementary age children at a local YMCA in educational and fun activities.
Giant Food LLC recently presented West Springfield High School with a check for $7,759.15, from the company's 2003-04 A+ BonusBucks program. West Springfield was one of the top 10 cash grant recipients from the 2003-04 program.

Heather Shuttleworth from Edison High School has been selected to attend Governor's School for Humanities at the University of Richmond. To be selected to participate in Governor's School, students must be nominated by their high school.
Thuy-Van Tina Ho of Springfield has been selected to receive the 2004 Laura Ashley Piper scholarship from Fairfax County Public Schools. Tina Ho is a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

Woodson High School students Peter Andre, Dayna Atiyeh, Andrew Beck, Rachel Becker, Elizabeth Cunningham, Richard Cutts, David Donnelly, Elizabeth Eckels, Kayla Feller, Christopher Hain, Joanna Herrmann, Raymond John, Katie Johnson, Kevin Koser, Benjamin Linfield, Grant Miller, Jennifer Nelson, Michael Neri, James Rowan, Elissa Williams, were among the graduates whom received a final grade of 4.0 or higher during their four years at the school.
Woodson High School student Laura Honan recently participated in the U.S. Naval Academy's week-long summer seminar program in Annapolis, Md. The program was designed to give students a taste of the challenges and benefits of a Naval Academy education through academics, physical training and other challenges.
