Amy Lerner, daughter of Mark and Michele Lerner of Reston, made the spring 2004 Dean's List at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University in New York City, which means she is in the top five percent of full-time students in the school. She is working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater arts with a minor in journalism. Amy graduated in 2003 from South Lakes High School.
Xiaoxi Lu of South Lakes High School was among the 25 students who recently graduated from the Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute sponsored by Volunteer Fairfax. The institute provides students with a combination of leadership and community service skills that prepare them for active roles in improving the quality of life in their community. This is the third year it has been offered by Volunteer Fairfax in Fairfax County.
Beth Chaverim Reform Congregation announces Bill Berkson has joined BCRC as its new education director. Berkson is an authority on education philosophy and Judaics.
Berkson most recently was the director of education for the Karp Family School of Greenbelt, Md., where he was instrumental in constructing a family education program. He also serves as the executive director for the Jewish Institute for Youth and Family. Berkson has been a professor/lecturer for London School of Economics, Brandeis University, Hofstra University and Boston University.
Beth Chaverim's Religious School provides instruction in Judiacs and Hebrew to students in Preschool-grade eight. In addition, confirmation and adult-education programs are available. The new school year for BCRC's Religious School begins Sept. 12.
