Police Report

The following incidents were reported by the Alexandria Police Department.

ROBBERY:

4700 blk. of Seminary Road. July 27, between 4:05 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. A 78-year-old Alexandria woman was walking toward the library when the suspect ran up to her. He grabbed her purse from her shoulder and then ran east on Seminary. A man who lives nearby saw the suspect run by and heard the woman's screams. This neighbor, a 35-year-old construction worker, began to chase the suspect. When a police car approached the scene, he flagged down the officer and directed him to the suspect. The officer apprehended the suspect, who still had the purse, in the 4500 block of Seminary Road. Neither the victim nor the neighbor was injured. Darryl J. Watkins, 21, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with robbery. He is being held at the Alexandria jail.

1500 blk. of Mt. Vernon Ave. July 27 at 8:40 p.m. A 56-year-old Alexandria woman was walking through a parking lot when the suspect approached her on a bicycle. He displayed a handgun and demanded the victim's purse. The victim complied and the suspect pedaled away with the purse. The victim was not injured. The suspect is described as a black male, 17-20 years old, 5'5"-5'6", and wearing a hooded black sweatshirt and black jeans.

Corner of Duke & South Pitt Sts. July 28, between 8:35 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. A 61-year-old Fairfax County woman was walking when the suspect walked toward her. They were both hunched over because it was raining. The suspect bumped into the woman and grabbed the waist pouch she was carrying. The suspect then crossed South Pitt Street and ran away. The woman was not injured. The suspect is described as a black male, 18-25, 5'11"-6'1", 160-165 lbs., and wearing a white T-shirt, dark shorts, and dark tennis shoes.

Intersection of Mt. Vernon and Randolph Aves. July 30 at 6:30 p.m. A 25-year-old Maryland man, was approached by three men. The suspects demanded his backpack, and the man complied. All three suspects then fled from the area on foot carrying the man's property.

BURGLARY:

801 N. St. Asaph St. Between 9 p.m. July 27 and 8:30 a.m. July 30, someone gained entry to the hotel room by undetermined means. Once inside, the suspect stole jewelry.

1 Oronoco St. Between 3 p.m. July 29 and 5 a.m. July 30, someone gained entry to the waterfront warehouse by forcing open a door. Once inside, the suspect or suspects caused extensive damage to the officers, plumbing and property being stored there. It is possible that some of the damage was caused by forklifts and other equipment that are used at the facility. The suspect(s) also removed four forklifts from the warehouse and dumped them from the dock into the Potomac. Alexandria fire units and D.C. Harbor Patrol responded and scuba divers recovered three forklifts from the river. It is not yet known if any other property was stolen from the facility. Damage estimates are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

3330 King St. Between 11:30 p.m. July 29 and 4:45 a.m. July 30, Someone gained entry to the school trailer through a door. Nothing appears to be missing.

4500 blk. of King St. Between 7 p.m. July 29 and 8:30 p.m. July 30. Stolen: tan four-door 1995 Toyota Camry,

4900 blk. of Seminary Rd. Between 9:30 p.m. July 28 and 1:00 a.m. July 29. Stolen: red 2002 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck.

5500 blk. of Trent Ct. Between 9:45 p.m. July 26 and 4:50 a.m.July 27. Stolen: blue four-door 1998 Honda Civic.

5800 blk. of Edsall Rd. Between 10 p.m. July 26and 5;45 a.m. July 27. Stolen: two-door green 1994 Honda Civic, .

4400 blk. of Taney Ave. Between 9:30 p.m. July 26 and 10 a.m. July 2. Stolen: four-door purple 1994 Honda Civic, .

5300 blk. of Knole Ct. Between 5:00 p.m. July 26 and 7:30 a.m. July 27. Stolen: white 1992 Chevrolet C-10 van.
