The new Amphora Bakery & Cafe had its grand opening this past Saturday. The event was enlivened with music, tastings and had a family-friendly atmosphere with games and the DotCom clown who provided face painting.
The bakery's back room, where production takes place, has a glass exterior, giving customers a behind-the-scene look at the baking process. Owner Maria Cholakis says the bakery's set up is to "give people in the area a chance to see artists at work. I want to share with the community because I think it's a fun thing."
The bakery's second floor is an additional sitting area overlooking both the front of the bakery and the production area.
The bakery's specialties and services include catering and cake-decorating classes. It will also accommodate birthday parties where children will be able to make their own cakes.
Along with its baked goods. the bakery sells greeting cards and party supplies such as napkins, paper plates and party favors.
The bakery is located at 294 Sunset Park Drive. For more information, call 703-964-0500.
