Fairfax County police are looking for a teen-age boy who stole a woman's purse from her grandson's stroller, knocking over the stroller and infant in the process. The woman and baby, a 9-month-old boy, sustained minor injuries, and the thief fled.
The incident happened Monday, around 11:50 a.m., as the 57-year-old grandmother pushed the infant's stroller on the sidewalk on Stone Road, heading toward Awbrey Patent Drive, in Sully Station. Police say the man accosted her and tried to snatch her purse from the stroller.
In the ensuing struggle, the stroller was overturned — and when the woman tended to the baby, she released her purse and the teen-ager ran off with it toward Sully Park Drive. Afterward, fire and rescue personnel rushed to the scene to treat the victims' injuries.
The suspect is described as dark-skinned, about 18 years old and 5 feet 6 inches. He had brown hair and wore a white T-shirt and blue jeans. Anyone with information about him or the incident is asked to call police at 703-691-2131 or Crime Solvers at 1-800-673-2777.
