<sh>Electrical Fire Damages Peter Pan Buffet
<bt>Fire suppression units from the City of Fairfax Fire Department and the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to the report of a structure fire on Wednesday, April 14, at 4:08 a.m.
A City of Fairfax police officer observed flames coming from the roof of the Peter Pan Buffet at 9522 Arlington Blvd. in the Fairfax Circle Shopping Center and was the first to report the fire.
The first suppression unit to arrive on the scene was City of Fairfax Rescue Engine 433. Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames coming from above the restaurant's front entrance. As hose lines were laid to extinguish the blaze, crew members from Truck 430 started to expose fire in the roof and inside the front wall. Within 24 minutes, the firefighters were able to bring the fire under control. Units stayed on the scene for another three and a half hours to uncover and put out smoldering fires.
According to a fire department release, the fire appeared to have originated in the electrical wiring of a sign above the restaurant. The fire extended into the building's front facade and roof and spread into an empty space above the restaurant's ceiling. Despite causing significant damage to the restaurant's roof and front facade, the adjacent stores sustained little damage. At the time of the fire, the restaurant was closed and no injuries were reported.
Property loss from the fire is estimated at $100,000 — $85,000 for structural damages and another $15,000 for the loss of furnishings and food.
