John D. Clarke, Jr., LS, has been named Woodbridge District director at Burgess & Niple. He joined the company in 1989, and has served as co-district director of the Dulles office since 2002. An executive vice president at Burgess & Niple, Inc., Clarke was elected an Associate of the firm in 2000 and an owner in 2002. Clarke resides in Gainesville with his wife, Sue. Riggs will be hosting a grand opening party at their new Riggs banking center in Sugarland Plaza at 47030 Community Plaza, Sterling on Saturday, April 24 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., with a moonbounce, hamburgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes and family activities. A new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system, made by Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging, is in operation at Virginia Tech's Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg. The standing MRI Unit is one of only two such units in the United States and the only one available in the eastern United States, according to Dr. Nat White, the Theodora Ayer Randolph Professor of Surgery and interim director of the Equine Medical Center.

The Loudoun County Small Business Development Center has announced the appointment of Beth Hain to the position of assistant director.

Market Salamander announces that Head Chef Todd Gray is a 2004 James Beard Foundation Award nominee. Winners will be announced May 10 in New York City during a Gala Celebration.

Buchanan Partners has obtained $15.1 million in permanent financing for Lakeside III, an award-winning 105,000-square-foot Class A office building in Loudoun County. Banc of America Securities placed the loan, replacing a construction loan from Bank of America.

Loudoun Cooperative Extension is offering a seminar on "Starting a Family Child Care Business" to provide caregivers with the tools to develop a successful home based child care service. Topics in the "Starting a Family Child Care Business" seminar will include getting started in family child care, zoning, advertising, contracts, arranging space, activity planning, and preparing nutritious foods in family day care. The requirements for both business and state licensing will be discussed, as well as voluntary registration, and how to enroll in the USDA Food Program for reimbursements of meals and snacks. The program will be held on Thursday, May 20 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Loudoun Extension Office in Leesburg. The registration fee is $10 to cover the resource manual provided to participants.
