Gov. Mark Warner has appointed Leesburg resident Douglas R. Fahl, a Dewberry executive vice president and manager of the firm’s Land Design and Surveys division, to a 4-year term on the Virginia Housing Development Authority. The authority provides support to low-income families, minorities, and others with special needs seeking to own or rent safe, decent, and affordable housing in Virginia. The authority has a portfolio of over $5 billion in loans for ownership and rental housing.
Fahl's expertise is in community design and the land use regulatory process, overseeing a network of regional offices throughout Northern Virginia and Maryland that serve the real estate development community. His previous Virginia gubernatorial appointments include the Virginia Board of Housing and Community Development, where he served as chairman for three years. He is a life director of the Home Builders Association of Virginia, a senior life director of the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, and a life director of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties. He has also been an associate member of the Urban Land Institute for over 25 years.
A graduate of Virginia Polytechnic & State University with a bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering, Fahl is a past chairman of the Virginia Tech Northern Virginia Center Advisory Board. He is a current member of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Advisory Board and the College of Engineering Committee of 100.
