The Ekoji Buddhist Temple offers an introductory class in Buddhism as part of its ongoing Dharma program. The classes will meet for one hour each Sunday from 10 to 11 a.m., for six weeks beginning Sept. 21. The topics covered in class include the life of the Buddha, the Four Noble Truths, Buddha's underlying philosophy and how Buddhism has spread. Classes are free and all are welcome. The Antioch Baptist Church will host a free orientation for "Fit for His Kingdom," an 11-week program of low-impact aerobics, Bible study and nutrition information. The Pohick Episcopal Church is having its annual Country Fair on Saturday, Sept. 27, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Fair takes place at Pohick Church Fair Grounds, at 9301 Richmond Highway, which is located between the intersections of Telegraph and Pohick Roads, in Lorton. The fair offers games, including a dunking pool; booths featuring used books, plants, baked goods and a hodge podge of household items, furniture and clothing; barbecue; and music provided by the Pohick Pickers. The fair also will include a demonstration of apple butter making; the apple butter will be available for purchase.

"Women Prophets," a Bible Study Workshop presented by the Springfield Church of Christ, Scientist, will take place Saturday, Sept. 27, 1-3 p.m. The workshop will focus on Miriam, Moses' sister; Deborah, a judge; Huldah, who lived during the reign of Josiah; and Anna, from the book of Luke. Author and speaker Joan Koelle Snipes will conduct the workshop. Registration is $10 and may be paid at the door. Bring a King James Bible. The public is invited to bid on bargains in all price ranges at "Fall Fiesta 2003," the annual fund-raising auction sponsored by Accotink Unitarian Universalist Church in Burke. Big-ticket items include two used cars, four days at a condo resort in Hawaii and a pair of Redskins tickets. More than 100 other items for the home, office and yard will be available, including artwork, exercise equipment, computer printers, crafts and baked goods. Services such as yard work, computer assistance, legal consultation, babysitting and sewing also will be offered. Food and refreshments will be on hand. Come join in the fun at Nativity's Fall Festival, Oct. 5, 3-7 p.m., on the church grounds at 6400 Nativity Lane in Burke. There will be entertainment for the whole family including, music, carnival games, amusements and good old fashioned fun. Space is available for crafters and vendors to participate in this popular fall festival. The fee is $40 for an 8 x 10 space. In addition, each vendor will also donate an item to be included in a raffle basket. All proceeds of the raffle sale will be used to help support the fall festival. St. Andrew’s Information Fair. On Sunday, Oct. 5, 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m., St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Burke will host its annual ministry fair showcasing the 55 programs in which they participate. Revs. David and Margaret Hiller visit Unity of Fairfax on Sunday, Oct. 5, 1-4 p.m., for a hands-on healing workshop. The Hillers’ work was featured in a CBS documentary, “Beyond Reality.” They will be signing their recently published book, “Dare to Dream.” On Monday, Oct. 6, individuals can make appointments for hour-long counseling and healing sessions with either David or Margaret for $60 an hour. Trunk and Treat. On Oct. 31, 6-8 p.m., members of the Central Christian Church will pass out candy in the church parking lot from the trunks of their cars. This is a safe environment for children to dress up in their favorite costumes and receive candy. Fun for children of all ages accompanied by a parent or guardian. "Growing Through Divorce." This eight-week workshop program discusses topics such as grieving the loss of the marriage, anger, rejection, forgiveness, loneliness and transitioning into single life. Career Net meets every Monday, from 7-9 p.m., at Accotink Unitarian Universalist Church in Burke. Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, located at 8336 Carrleigh Parkway in Springfield, supports a Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) program on the first Wednesday of each month. Meetings are 9:30-11 a.m., at the church. All mothers and children are welcome. The program provides mothers an opportunity to get to know other mothers through discussions and craft activities.
