Sully Senior Center Offers Socialization

The Sully Senior Center provides seniors with roughly 30 different activities a month and offers socialization with other people of the same age.

Operated by the Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation Services, the Sully Senior Center is housed at Centreville Presbyterian Church, 5690 Sully Road (Route 28), adjacent to the I-66 ramp.

Planned activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a variety of interests — physical exercise, eight-ball pool, health tips, manicures and current events discussions.

In addition, there's Dr. Kozlowski's Senior Health Hour, Sing-Along with Claudia, pizza parties and piano performances, to name a few.

The center also offers sightseeing trips to places like Baltimore or the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

Every Thursday there is a shopping trip to help with grocery needs. The cost is $1, and preregistration is necessary.

The center hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., although the seniors usually leave at 2 p.m. when the planned events end.

ANYONE 55 YEARS or older may join for free and transportation is provided to and from the center for those approved through FASTRAN.

A calendar of events highlights the monthly offerings, as well as an extensive lunch menu.

A cafeteria-style lunch is available daily for a nominal fee. Lunch menu items include: beef teriyaki nuggets with glazed sweet potatoes, breaded baked fish with rice pilaf, chicken parmesan with steamed pasta, and spaghetti — and more.

Reservations for lunch must be made no later than that morning. Cost is on a sliding scale based upon the individual’s income; guests pay $7.

The senior center is located at 5690 Sully Road, Centreville.
