Jayne Ramirez, an auxiliary member of the Manassas American Legion Post 10, led a care package campaign to supply the 12-member unit with necessities and morale items. When Ramirez discovered the soldiers' logistical supplies were not sufficient and that many of them did not have families, she mobilized members of the American Legion and the donations began flowing. Despite numerous family obligations of her own, Ramirez spent many late nights packing boxes and writing individual letters to the soldiers. Ramirez continued her efforts for six months, until the unit returned to the States.
