<bt>Stephanie "Sam" McKee of Burke was recognized by the Boy Scouts of America for having earned the Venturing Bronze Award. Venturing is the Boy Scouts of America's newest youth development program for young men and women ages 14 through 20. The program aims to provide a positive learning experience in a challenging outdoor environment and allows young adults the opportunity to develop leadership skills while exploring new and exciting activities.
McKee earned her award in Religious Life after successfully completing all required components of the award. Her accomplishments included earning her church's youth religious award, participating in church service projects, serving as counselor for a week-long youth camp, teaching Sunday school, and serving as an officer in her church youth group.
McKee, a 2003 graduate of Lake Braddock Secondary School, is a member of Burke United Methodist Church and Venturing Crew 11000, sponsored by the Church of the Nativity in Burke. She has been active in the crew for the past two years and has serves as the crew's secretary and activity chair for various events. In addition to her Venturing interests, McKee was an honors student at Lake Braddock, a member of the marching band, Latin Club, Latin and National Honor Societies and other organizations. She has been and active and regular performer with the Burke Community Ballet. This fall McKee will attend the University of Tennessee where she will major in nuclear engineering and be a member of the UT marching band.
