Suspect Apprehended

Montgomery County Police arrested a person who they suspect was committing a commercial burglary in Bethesda.

On Oct. 16, at approximately 1:15 a.m. Officer Curtis Jacobs, a member of the second district Special Assignment Team observed an individual near the Fortune Taste Restaurant in the Wildwood Shopping Center on Old Georgetown in Bethesda.

The special assignment is a plainclothes, investigative unit, one of which operates out of each precinct. He and officer John Wigmore, also of the Special Assignment Team, heard loud banging noises when the individual was at the rear of the restaurant.

Wigmore saw the suspect in the rear of the restaurant, carrying a backpack. He identified himself as a police officer and advised the suspect that he was under arrest.

The suspect, Jason Kenneth Rollins, 18 of Silver Spring, reacted violently and struck Wigmore behind the left ear, according to police reports. Other officers arrived to assist.

Police say that Rollins continued to resist, kicking a tracking dog, which caused the dog to latch onto his leg. This allowed officers to complete the arrest.

Rollins has been charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree assault, resisting arrest and malicious destruction of property. He is being held on a $25,000 bond.

Leaf Collection

The Montgomery County Department of Public Works and Transportation will conduct its annual vacuum collection of leaves from Nov. 3-mid December.

Residents should look for signs posted along the streets announcing the collection dates in their neighborhood. Green signs indicate the first collection, and red sign will serve as a second and final notice.

Leaves should be placed in piles or containers on the grass or behind the curb.

Residents who miss the two scheduled vacuum collections can still have their leaves collected by placing them in paper yard waste bags on their regular waste collection day. Call 240-777-7623.
