Alumni Commons Dedicated

Many bricks Still for Sale

Gayle Yoxtheimer and Kristy Smith knew where they were going to be last Friday at 6 p.m. After all the hard work they put into the West Potomac landscaping committee a few years ago, they were not going to miss the dedication of the Alumni Commons — Home of the Rock at West Potomac. Yoxtheimer, Smith and Laura Jernigan had worked with Dan Storck to get the wheels rolling on an ambitious multi-year landscaping plan for West Potomac. They are just now beginning to reap the fruits of their hard work.

This is due in part to the role that PTSA president Phoebe Mix and current landscaping committee members Gerry Pratsch, Chris Pryately, and Laura Jernigan and Andi DeRose continue to play. Mix and Pratsch spearheaded the effort to sell more than 200 bricks, and they continue to market the program.

The relief on Storck's face as he cut the ribbon over the brick patio was evident; he was very glad to see that the project continues. He was surrounded by members of past and current landscaping committees and their families, PTSA president Phoebe Mix, Principal Eric Brent and career resource specialist Betsy Galeota.

To buy a brick, call 703-329-1050. Brick prices are $45 for standard size with four lines, 20 characters each, or $90 for large size with six lines, 20 characters each. The school is also accepting donations of trees and benches and is looking for help with the planting, mulching, etc., of the grounds.
