<bt>As a teacher at Westfield High School, I am proud to add my name to the list of those professionals who strongly endorse Lynn Terhar’s candidacy for the Fairfax County School Board. I witnessed firsthand what a powerful advocate for public education can do for one school in her amazing tenure as Westfield High School’s first PTSA president. She helped create spirit, pride and a sense of community in the unformed Westfield school district and really, as much as anyone, helped make Westfield a home for all its new teachers and students. Whether leading massive fund-raising efforts at the “Bulldog Barbecue” or offering support to teachers in a variety of large and small ways, Lynn was always there, always a voice for teachers and students, always a tireless and reasonable supporter of education in the broadest sense of the word. It was clear she cared about each child regardless of wealth, interests or abilities, and that she wanted Westfield to serve the entire community’s needs.
I can only imagine what good such a person could do on a Board too often torn apart by politics and ambition. Lynn has the spirit and brilliance to make a real difference.
And, as the teacher of her youngest son, Dan, a thoughtful and amazingly mature young man, I am convinced that she deeply respects and understands the needs of children. After 26 years of teaching in the Fairfax County Public Schools, I believe I can recognize the role of parental wisdom, compassion and insight in the creation of such an outstanding young person.
Surely, this kind of rare expertise is exactly what we need on the Fairfax County School Board.
Please join me (and countless other educators who have worked with her) in voting for Lynn Terhar on Election Day.
