The issue of abortion is often a taboo topic in social circles. Many people don't feel comfortable discussing it or just don't want to get involved. Others think, abortion is legal so there is nothing to worry about. Well, it is time people start talking about it because there are legislators in Richmond who are willing to stop at nothing in order to infringe on our rights to make decisions regarding our reproductive health.
State Sen. Ken Cuccinelli (R-37th) has led the assault on reproductive rights since he stepped into office last August. With all the other problems facing Northern Virginia, opposing abortion has been his priority. Cuccinelli is against abortion under all circumstances. He claims to support abortion when the life of the mother is in jeopardy, but don't let him fool you. He led the ban on partial-birth abortion in Richmond, which is now law. There is no exception in the law that would allow for a doctor to perform a late-term abortion when the mother's life is in danger. So, which is it Ken? Are women in Virginia going to have to die on emergency room tables because of your personal beliefs? Cuccinelli doesn't stop there. He is opposed to certain forms of birth control because they prevent pregnancy from occurring and supports allowing pharmacists to refuse to fill a patient's valid prescription for contraception on moral grounds. How much sense does it make to prevent access to the very thing that would reduce the need for abortion?
Ken Cuccinelli is on a mission to force his radical moral agenda on the citizens of Virginia. What is it going to take for you to stand up and say "No"! If Cuccinelli is returned to Richmond, he will try to further restrict your right to make your own health care decisions. It is time Northern Virginia stops this extremist attack on our rights. On Nov. 4, vote to protect your rights by voting against Ken Cuccinelli.
