Centreville's Jose Manuel Canenguez-Giron was already in enough trouble with the law after being arrested in March and charged with stabbing two people. But things worsened for him last week when he failed to appear for his court date and the judge issued a new warrant for his arrest.
Canenguez-Giron, 23, of 14201 Saint Germain Drive, No. 104, in the Knolls of Newgate community, first came to the attention of Fairfax County police on March 22. They say that, around 11:30 p.m., he was in a car with two Manassas men, both 23, on Compton Road near Centreville Road, when an altercation broke out.
Police say Canenguez-Giron suddenly became upset and allegedly stabbed the two men, then got out of the car and fled. The victims were able to drive themselves to Centreville Fire Station 17 on Old Centreville Road, where they immediately received treatment for their non-life-threatening injuries. They were later Medevaced to Inova Fairfax Hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, patrol officers responded to the 14500 block of Pittman Court in Centreville, where a man had broken a basement window and was trying to enter a house. Officers found the intruder — later reportedly identified as Canenguez-Giron — and arrested him. Police charged him with destruction of property, possession of false identification and being drunk in public.
Following further investigation — which, according to police, revealed he was allegedly responsible for the earlier stabbing — they also charged him with malicious wounding, which is punishable by as much as 20 years in prison.
Canenguez-Giron was later released on bond and, on Sept. 9 in General District Court, Judge William J. Minor Jr. certified the case against him to the grand jury — which indicted him on Sept. 15. He was scheduled to enter a plea last Tuesday, Oct. 7, in Circuit Court. But he didn't show up, so a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
