<sh>Cold War Museum Pledges

<bt>Federal employees will have an opportunity to honor the memory of their colleagues who helped win the Cold War, and also preserve the history of that era for future generations, by contributing to the Cold War Museum during the Combined Federal Campaign now under way.

Employees may designate their contribution for The Cold War Museum (CFC No. 7475) when making pledges for the drive.

The museum was founded by Francis Gary Powers Jr., son of the pilot who was shot down over the Soviet Union in 1960 while flying a U2 “spy plane.” Powers has organized an exhibit of his father’s personal memorabilia and other items, which has been circulating in the United States and overseas. A site for permanent displays is being developed in Northern Virginia, with branches planned throughout the country. The museum, which is a Smithsonian Institution affiliate, also operates the “spy tour” of places in the Washington area associated with celebrated espionage cases.
