Under the direction of David Schmidt, IB Director, the International Baccalaureate theater students performed Gaslight for the Virginia Theatre Association (VTA) 2003 Conference, an annual event featuring festivals, competitions, and special performances in the theatre arts. This year' event was held in Reston, Oct. 30 through Nov. 2. Forty high schools performed one act plays. In addition, students attended workshops such as theater sports and playwriting. Mr. Schmidt has directed the IB student program and coordinated the students attending VTA for the past eight years.
"Gaslight," written by Patrick Hamilton, is a murder mystery — the story of a man suspected of a murder committed 15 years earlier in the same house where he and his wife, Bella, reside. The story unfolds as Inspector Rough tries to uncover the necessary evidence against him. The play is set in London, England in 1880.
