This year Winston Churchill's theater department is expecting to have a great season. With a new technical director and plenty of new talent there is no doubt that the show will go on. Lately I have had the opportunity to speak with one of the many new additions to our school, freshman Lauren Voggel, about her experience on tech crew for the upcoming show "Guys and Dolls."
Lauren came to Churchill this past August with no experience in theater. She enjoys working on the crew and says she loves the people and it's just how much fun the whole experience is. Lauren likes to use the power tools and keep herself busy. There's never a minute when she feels useless. Tech is most rewarding for Lauren because she used to write plays at her summer camp for people to perform and it was rewarding to see people perform something she wrote, and says it will be just as wonderful to see people perform on our very own stage using the sets that she helped build.
As for "Guys and Dolls," Lauren is expecting the show to go really well. When I recently spoke with Lauren, she told me about the set and said, "Our Hot Box is going to look amazing." As you can see, as a brand new techie Lauren is anxiously awaiting the opening night of what is anticipated to be a great show.
One last question. Will she continue to do tech? Lauren told me, "Absolutely. Without a doubt!." This is one young girl who has only been with us a couple months at Churchill and has found a nice niche in our school. Best of Luck to our theater department and freshman Lauren Voggel.
