Most Schools Accredited
<bt>Ninety-one percent of Fairfax County public schools earned full accreditation from the Virginia Department of Education, based on results from the 2002-03 Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, up from 89 percent in 2001-02. Statewide, 78 percent of schools earned full accreditation.
A total of 168 schools in Fairfax County are fully accredited; four are provisionally accredited, or meets state standards; 10 are provisionally accredited, or needs improvement; and two are accredited with warning. The Fairfax County Public Schools figures include alternative schools.
Sixteen schools, five of which are Project Excel schools, achieved a 100 percent accreditation pass rate in at least one core area. Of the 22 Project Excel schools, 12 are now fully accredited. Three of the Project Excel schools are provisionally accredited and seven are provisionally accredited.
All general education middle and high schools are fully accredited, with the exception of Mount Vernon High, which is provisionally accredited.
