<sh> Men Charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny
<bt>Two men are behind bars on charges that they broke into a local high school. On Monday, Oct. 27, at approximately 2 a.m., police were called by school security officers who pulled up on a burglary in progress at the Falls Church High School, located at 7521 Jaguar Trail, Falls Church. Ashgar Aziz, 18, of Gwynedd Way, Springfield, and Nuir Abbas, 21, of 5117 Harvey Lane, Alexandria, were charged with burglary and grand larceny. Several musical instruments were taken during the break-in and have since been recovered.
<sh>'What Kids Need to Succeed'
<bt>Dr. Peter Benson, president of the Search Institute, will give a presentation, "What Kids Need to Succeed: Building Developmental Assets in Our Kids and Community," on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 7:30 p.m., at Lake Braddock Secondary School, 9200 Burke Lake Road, Burke. Benson and the Search Institute specialize in child and adolescent development with a focus on the power of communities in raising children and adolescents. The program is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the West Springfield Community Coalition and the Safe and Drug-Free Youth Section of Fairfax County Public Schools. The program is funded through the Safe and Drug-Free School and Communities federal grant.
<sh>Davis, Bulova at OWC Meeting
<bt>Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-11th) and David Bulova, with the Popes Head Creek committee, will address the Oct. 11 meeting of the Occoquan Watershed Coalition (OWC). The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Clifton Town Meeting Hall, 12641 Chapel Road in Clifton. Davis will talk about his recent trip to Iraq, and Bulova will discuss the Popes Head Creek Watershed Study and Plan. Also scheduled is the election/renewal of directors.
