Hernandez Pleads Guilty: Rape, Forcible Sodomy

A Chantilly man is facing a possible two life terms in prison after pleading guilty recently to rape and forcible sodomy. He is Eric Alfonso Hernandez (AKA Hugo Rene Lopez), 39, of 4004 Kimberly Glen Court.

The crimes were carried out at knifepoint, June 25, in the Chantilly home of the 32-year-old victim. Fairfax County police said he and the woman knew each other from a prior relationship.

Police Det. Shawn Perkins presented details of the criminal case against Hernandez in a June 26 affidavit for a search warrant to obtain possible evidence from the suspect's person. It stated that Hernandez went to the woman's home, around 7:30 p.m., after which things turned violent.

"They began to argue, and a struggle ensued," wrote the detective. "The victim ended up on the floor in her living room. Hernandez began to kiss the victim against her will while holding a utility knife to [her] throat."

Perkins wrote that Hernandez then forced the woman to engage in oral sex with him, ordered her to remove her clothes and then raped her. Afterward, the man left her home. The detective noted that the woman told him she'd "scratched Hernandez on his chest and neck during the assault."

He also wrote that, when police arrested the Chantilly man, June 26 around 1 a.m., the arresting officer observed scratches on Hernandez' upper chest and neck. Police charged him with rape, forcible sodomy and abduction with intent to defile.

On Aug. 22, in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, all three charges against him were certified to the grand jury, and he was indicted on Sept. 15. Then on Oct. 7 in Circuit Court, before Judge David Stitt, the prosecution agreed to drop the abduction charge and Hernandez pleaded guilty to rape and forcible sodomy.

Stitt then set his sentencing for Dec. 5. Each of Hernandez' remaining two charges are punishable by a maximum of life in prison.
