The countywide extended-day schedule, which added 30 minutes to every school day, is finally over and students are happy to leave school at the regular time. This week students are taking Virginia SOL (Standards of Learning) tests, and, as if to compensate for the past month’s extended schedule, school ends at 1:15 p.m.
Seniors in the South Lakes Theatre Arts program presented their Senior Shows last Friday afternoon. Dan Collier, Brittany Heath, Dan Katz, Amy Lerner, Jessica Pinkston and Stephanie Wolfe each performed a combination of acts, including singing, dancing, piano playing, monologues, dramatic readings and a fashion show. Each ended with a farewell speech to fellow classmates.
It is not too late to sign up to participate in the annual Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, and held on the South Lakes track from 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 31 to 7 a.m. on Sunday, June 1. For more information, contact Shari True at 703-938-5550 or strue@cancer.org.
The SLICE International Club will host its second annual International Dinner Friday, June 6. The event will celebrate student achievements, introduce the club’s new magazine and feature multicultural entertainment. There will be an abundance of international culinary delights.
