Students and teachers breathed a sigh of relief as SOL (Standards of Learning) testing was wrapped up May 20 and they anticipate the remaining weeks of school left. Many students are planning for the upcoming prom and graduation.
The Band Department held their spring concert May 22, at 7 p.m., in the Park View Auditorium. The entertainment was provided by the concert and symphonic bands, as well as the percussion ensemble.
The theme for this year's prom is "An Evening with the Stars." The prom will be held May 31, at the Tysons Westpark Hotel, from 8 p.m.-midnight. The 2003 prom king and queen will be crowned at approximately 10:15 p.m., following a senior couples dance.
Park View finished in second place in the Virginia Math League contest for the second straight year. Students in this contest during the morning of the first Tuesday of every month.
The varsity softball team defeated Broad Run 4-1 on May 20, which advanced them to the Region II tournament. Senior Karie Morrison struck out 11 batters, only giving up three hits. Seniors Veronica Skinner, Karie Morrison, and sophomore Julia Dominguez each had two hits. Juniors Sarah Clements and Ashley Kline each scored one run for the Patriots as Sarah Orrison brought in two.
