Robbery at Taco Bell
Fairfax County police are looking for whoever robbed the Taco Bell on Metrotech Drive in Chantilly on Sunday, May 4. Police say a man entered the restaurant around 8:20 p.m. and asked a Chantilly woman, 37, employed as a clerk there, for change. But when she opened the cash drawer, the man pushed her and grabbed an undisclosed amount of money from the register.
The suspect is described as black, in his late 20s and 6 feet. He wore a green baseball cap, white T-shirt and black pants. He was seen fleeing in a white, older-model van with ladders on top and no license plates. Anyone with information about the man or this incident is asked to call police at 703-691-2131.
Pleasant Valley Curves to be Eliminated
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a meeting about eliminating three hazardous curves on Pleasant Valley Road. It's set for Wednesday, May 21, from 7-9 p.m. in Community Room 1 of Supervisor Michael R. Frey's (R-Sully) new office in the Sully District Governmental Center, 4900 Stonecroft Blvd., in Chantilly.
Residents will learn about the scope of the project, plus a proposal to temporarily close the road during the construction phases. After the presentation, Frey and VDOT will receive comments and feedback on the best ways to manage traffic during construction.
OK for Nursery School
The Fair Oaks Child Development Center at 12001 Lee Highway wants to double its enrollment and expand its building size to accommodate the additional children. Constructed in 1999, the building sits on almost three acres at the corner of Spruce Avenue and Route 29.
Some 75 children are currently enrolled, but adding to the rear of the building would enable the child-care center to serve 150 children. However, Fair Oaks first needs permission from the county for the building expansion. It took a step forward, last Wednesday, May 7, when the plan was endorsed by the Fairfax County Planning Commission; next stop is the Board of Supervisors.
CCF Meeting May 27
The Centreville Day Committee of the Centreville Community Foundation (CCF) will meet Tuesday, May 20, in the community room of Supervisor Michael R. Frey's (R-Sully) new office at 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly. Call Sandy Shapiro at 703-266-3653. No May Coalition Meeting
The Centreville Community Coalition will not have its usual meeting, this month. The next one will be June 4, at 10 a.m., at Union Mill Elementary.
Blood is Still Needed
The Inova Blood Donor Center in the Centremed I Building on Route 29 in Centreville (across from the Centreville Multiplex Cinemas) is still in urgent need of blood donations — especially O positive or negative, as well as A and B. They are accepted Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, noon-8 p.m.; Wednesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
To make an appointment to give blood, call (703) 322-1970, or just drop in at your own convenience. According to the Inova Health System, it only takes an hour to donate blood, and each donation can save the lives of three people.
