<sh>Springfield Man Charged in Assault
<bt>Fairfax County Police charged Carlos A. Fuentes, 21, of Comet Circle in the Springfield area, with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old Arlington-area woman.
The victim reported that she had been out with friends on Saturday, April 12, when they decided to stay at a motel for the night. After everyone had fallen asleep, one of the group, who was later identified as Fuentes, allegedly sexually assaulted the victim.
Fuentes turned himself in to police on Friday, May 2. He is being held without bond at the Adult Detention Center.
<sh>Alcohol Sting
<bt>The Fairfax County Police Department's Traffic Safety Services Unit, along with the West Springfield Community Policing Unit, conducted an alcohol sting at 33 locations within the West Springfield District on Friday, May 2. The sting is part of the Youth Alcohol Campaign and was conducted using underage Fairfax County Police cadets, dressed in plain clothing, who attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages. The following locations improperly sold alcoholic beverages: The Market, 8912 Village Shops Drive, Fairfax Station; and CVS Pharmacy, 9009 Silverbrook Road, Fairfax Station. Thirty-one other locations did not sell alcoholic beverages to the cadets. Two arrests were made in the two establishments where alcohol was sold to the cadets.
<sh>Springfield Woman Robbed
<bt>On April 28, just before midnight, a man approached a 57-year-old Springfield-area woman in the 6000 block of Brunswick Street. As she was getting out of her car, the man grabbed her purse. The pair struggled until the strap broke. The man then got into a car and fled with the purse.
The suspect was described as a 35-year-old white man, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds.
<sh>2 Teens Robbed
<bt>Two boys, ages 15 and 16, were walking near Julian and Gary streets on April 27, at 12:45 a.m., when a white, customized Chevrolet Suburban drove by them and parked. Three black males got out of the Suburban, announcing a robbery. After taking a wallet from one of the boys, the suspects got back into the vehicle and drove away.
The first suspect was described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. The second suspect was described as being 5 feet 11 inches tall and wearing a baseball hat, baseball jersey and jeans. The third suspect was described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing a dark-blue sweat shirt and jeans. All three suspects wore black bandannas across their faces.
<sh>Woman Robbed at Drop Box
<bt>On April 25, at 10:13 p.m., an Alexandria-area woman, 28, was parked in front of the night deposit drop box at the Bank of America in the 6400 block of Loisdale Road. When she approached the drop box, a man grabbed her from behind and took the night deposit bag she was carrying. The suspect fled eastbound toward the Silver Diner. The suspect was described as black and in his early 20s, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He wore a black stocking cap, black sweater and khaki-colored pants.
<sh>Bias Incident at Kmart Building
<bt>Fairfax County Police at the West Springfield District Station are investigating a vandalism/bias incident that occurred in the 6000 block of Burke Commons Road. Police reported that the side and rear walls of the Kmart building had been spray-painted with graffiti, some of which was described as racially biased.
