Hearing Postponed

Andrew Klepper, 15, of Potomac had been scheduled for a reverse waiver hearing on May 5, but that hearing has been postponed to May 13.

Montgomery County Police allege that Klepper was involved in a sexual assault at his Quarry Ridge Way home in November. Due to the nature of the crime Klepper was charged as an adult. The hearing will determine if he is to be tried as a juvenile.

Ryan Baird of Rockville was involved in an incident at the house and has been sentenced to remain in juvenile custody. The 15-year-old must be released by the time he turns 21.

Young Song of Cabin John was also involved in an incident at the house. Song was an adult at the time of the assault and has been found guilty and faces a maximum of 29 years in prison.

Rainscapes Workshops

The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection has received a $29,000 grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s Urban Watershed Protection and Restoration Projects program for a new educational program called “Rainscapes.”

The program teaches residents how to prevent pollution and erosion while recharging groundwater supplies by capturing and reusing rainwater. Workshops will be held this spring where homeowners can collect rooftop runoff and control stormwater. During a series of workshops this fall, volunteers will plant Rainscapes gardens and learn how to maintain them.
