Virginia Run Artists Create Starbucks Mural

In honor of Youth Art Month, last Saturday, about 100 budding young artists from Virginia Run Elementary created a colorful mural on the bottom panels of the windows of the Fair Lakes Starbucks.

(From left) are sisters Bethany and Melanie Baron. Bethany, 6, is in kindergarten, and Melanie, 7, is a second-grader; their parents are Mary Beth and Doug Baron of Virginia Run.

Under the guidance of their art teacher Precious Werner, the children took turns painting a springtime scene of flowers, rainbows, clouds and sunshines. All grades participated, but K-3 had the biggest turnout. (Student artwork is displayed inside the store, too).

The mural will be up for at least a month and, said Werner, "I think it's beautiful. They're so good about taking what they learned in class — how to fill in details and use the space — and applying it."

Starbucks Manager Cindy Perez was also pleased. "It's a great opportunity for the kids to come out and have some fun," she said. "It definitely adds a lot of color to the store."
