The American Cancer Society Reston Relay For Life fundraising teams are now forming. Teams are comprised of 8-15 individuals. All participating team members will spend a day of ceremonies, including the Survivors Victory Lap and the Luminaria Ceremony, on May 31-June 1 at South Lakes High School. During the day long event, teams will jog or walk around the high school track in relay fashion to show defiance to cancer disease. No minimum amount of money is required to be raised. Organizations offering programs or services to teens are invited to the Teen Summer Expo on Saturday, March 29 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Reston Community Center, Hunters Woods, 2310 Colts Neck Road, Reston.
The Teen Expo gives teens and their parents an opportunity to gather information on local organizations, jobs, summer camps, sports camps, programs, trips and volunteer and community service opportunities.
There is no fee to take part in the Teen Summer Expo, but interested organizations do need to reserve a spot. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration gives organizations an entry in the "Teen Summer Opportunities Booklet," which will be distributed to all who attend the Expo and also throughout the community, containing program and contact information for all the participants in Expo.

An Eagle Scout candidate in Boy Scout Troop 1313 is organizing a food and toiletries drive to benefit Reston Interfaith. Crafters are invited to submit applications to exhibit at the Reston Community Center Holiday Arts and Crafts Show. The 12th Annual Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival will be held Saturday-Sunday, May 17-May 18 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Reston Town Center to benefit the Greater Reston Arts Center. The Festival is the largest outdoor art festival in the region and will include works for sale of over 170 painters, sculptors, fine-craft artisans and jewelers. The two-day event will also feature entertainment, food and children's activities. Admission is open to the public and a $5 donation is suggested. Three Wishes Program makes power wheelchairs available to senior citizens (65 years and up) and the permanently disabled with no cost to the recipient if they qualify. The power wheelchairs are provided to those who cannot walk and cannot self-propel a manual wheelchair in their home, and who meet the additional guidelines of the program. No deposit is required. Reversing a previous decision, a limited supply (60 percent, compared to last year) of Virginia income tax forms will be made available free at public libraries in Fairfax County. Forms are also available online at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library with links to IRS and Virginia tax forms. Copies may be printed out at the library from the Internet for 15 cents a page. Tax help for the elderly and people with disabilities will be available at some library branches from February through April 15. Area commuters are invited to celebrate Bike to Work Day in Reston on Friday, May 2 from 6:30-9 a.m. in the Reston Town Center Pavilion. The Reston Town Center Pit Stop Rally will feature refreshments, information tables, give-aways and prizes for pre-registered riders. Hunter Mill District Supervisor Cathy Hudgins and other dignitaries will attend for a brief welcome at 8 a.m..
The event is organized by LINK; Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA); Fairfax County Government; VDOT; Friends of the W&OD Trail; USGS; the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority; the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG); Reston Association; and the Reston Bike Club.
May is National Bike to Work Month, and hundreds of bicycling commuters from the Washington metropolitan region will be out pedaling in celebration of clean transportation.
