Marine Corps Reserve Pvt. Daniel B. Heaney, son of Benjamin H. Heaney of Fairfax and Lisa M. Raum of Owings, Md., recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island, S.C.
Heather Roed, a 2000 graduate of West Springfield High School, was activated by the U.S. Army reserves to full-time duty. Her Army specialty is civil affairs; teams repair or build whatever is required in areas needing this assistance. She will be overseas for 10 months.
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Carmen R. Soria Galvarro, daughter of Marina T. and Lucio H. Alvarez of Reeds Landing Circle in Burke, recently was promoted meritoriously to her current rank while serving with Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
