A 3-year-old Herndon girl drowned Monday afternoon in the Sully Station II community pool at 5501 Sully Park Drive in Centreville. She was identified as Tarah Saeedi of Coomber Court.
According to Fairfax County police, a lifeguard spotted the child on the bottom of the pool, shortly after 4 p.m., and immediately pulled her from the water and began resuscitation efforts.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel rushed to the scene and continued trying to revive the toddler, but to no avail. She was Medevaced to Inova Fairfax Hospital where she was pronounced dead, a short time later.
Police say the little girl's mother was with her at the swimming pool, but was not in the water at the time. Police spokesman Tom Harrington said Tuesday it's not known how the child came to be in the pool — whether she was swimming or fell in — nor how long she was in the water before the lifeguard discovered her.
