The English as a Second Language (ESL) and Immigrant Ministries program has an immediate need for teaching volunteers. The time commitment is two hours, one day/night per week or Saturday mornings, September through December. Teacher training is being offered on either Saturday, Aug. 9 (8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) or Sunday, Aug. 24 (1-5:30 p.m.) and on Sunday, Sept. 7 (1-5:30 p.m.).

Voce, a choral ensemble, is holding auditions for 2003-2004 concert series during the last week of June. The season will include a concert of Christmas music in December, a concert of settings from Songs of Solomon in mid-winter, a spring concert of American poetry and a "Gala Concert" of popular and Broadway songs in October. Volunteers play a key role in the Northern Virginia Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program's provision of advocacy services to recipients of long-term care in the region. The volunteer is assigned to a specific nursing home or assisted living facility, and makes weekly visits. Using the skills of listening, observing and mediating, the ombudsman works with the residents, their families and the staff of the facility to ensure that the residents' rights are being protected. Applicants must successfully complete a training session and must be available to volunteer four hours per week, primarily during business hours.
