Hall of Famers Bill Russell, Sonny Jurgensen and Oscar Roberston will reunite for The Bobby Mitchell/Toyota Hall of Fame Classic sponsored by The Washington Auto Dealers. Hosted by Lansdowne Resort, the benefit tournament for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will take place on Sunday, July 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Spectators can enter a contest to win a Toyota Corolla in the tournament's "Toyota Shoot Out," a closest to the pin challenge. Spectators who would like to participate in the Toyota Shootout, will get one drive for a $10 donation and three drives for a $25 donation. For a five-dollar donation, the public can be part of the tournament gallery. Children under 12 are free. Young golfers ages 12 and under can compete in the Bobby Mitchell/Toyota Hall of Fame Classic Putting Contest for Kids for the chance to win a brand new Dell computer. Discovery Channel mascot "Sharky" and Animal Planet mascot "Crikey the Crocodile" will be onsite to cheer on the competition.

Franklin Park in Purcellville will sponsor a trip, "A Day Out With Thomas the Tank Engine," at the Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania on Thursday, June 19. Registration for the trip which includes transportation on Virginia Coach. Pick up for the trip is at 8:30 a.m. at Leesburg Kohl's parking lot and at 8 a.m. at Franklin Park. The bus returns to Loudoun at approximately 7 p.m. Registration fee is $35 per person. Call Franklin Park at 540-338-7603.

The Ashburn Community Web Site celebrates its seven year anniversary as an online resource for citizens in the Ashburn area in Loudoun County. The Web site is operated by an Ashburn-based couple and contains information about all Ashburn communities and neighborhoods. The Postcard Factory is a new function that lets Ashburn residents send out free electronic postcards featuring pictures of Ashburn. New sections include "Health," which provides listings of dance studios, fitness centers and health-related facilities. A "Food" section has a listing of Ashburn restaurants and the "Shopping" section lists each Ashburn shopping center, providing maps, driving directions and store directories. Claude Moore Park in Sterling has hiking trails up for adoption. Volunteers adopt trails and maintain them at least four times a year to trim underbrush, pick up litter, toss sticks off the trail and note any special plant or animal sightings. Park staff takes care of routine mowing and any chainsaw work needed. The service opportunity is available to individuals age 18 and over, families, scout troops, schools, churches or others. Volunteers are needed to teach adult English as a Second Language classes in Sterling for the summer. Classes are offered by Hogar Hispano of Catholic Charities. No experience or second language is required. Call 703-534-9805, Ext. 222.

Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum is seeking interested teens and adults to volunteer by becoming a tour guide. Training is provided. Hours are flexible. The farm is located at Claude Moore Park in Sterling. Call Janis Golden at 703-421-5322.

Loudoun County teens can visit www.loudounteens.org to learn how to get involved in their community and where to go to find information about jobs and other programs and services available to teenagers. Local teen Jon Hughes designed the site with input from teens that serve on the Loudoun County Advisory Commission On Youth (ACOY). The Northern Virginia Family Service seeks foster families for abused and neglected children. African-American families are particularly needed. Help is needed in both full-time and short-term programs. Training, support and financial compensation will be provided. The summary provides statistical snapshots of the county and also examines economic and demographic trends for Loudoun County and the Northern Virginia region. Meeting room facilities are available after hours to the public at Eastern Loudoun Regional Library, Cascades, and Rust Library, Leesburg. Groups and organizations may book the meeting rooms for after hours use Monday through Saturday. The meeting rooms must be booked 10 business days in advance and only until 11 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. All groups using the meeting rooms after hours will pay a security fee of $21 per hour with a minimum of two hours. The security fee is in addition to other fees such as AV charges or room-use fees for businesses and for-profit groups.
