The annual Senior Barbecue and Class Night will take place this Friday, June 13 from 5 to 10 p.m. This will be the second to last school-sponsored social event for seniors.
The Baccalaureate, a spiritual gathering for seniors and their families, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 15 in a Reston church. Motivational speeches and readings will be presented by South Lakes students and parents.
Graduation is on Tuesday, June 17 at 4 p.m. Highlights will include speeches by student speaker Erin Girardi, faculty speaker Laurence Ward, and Virginia Secretary of Education Belle Wheelan, and the performance of the class song, Green Day’s “Good Riddance/Time of Your Life.” During less exciting parts of the ceremony, students will most likely pass beach balls and other rubber toys to one another until these toys are confiscated by faculty members. Yearbook signing is also to be expected during the ceremony.
The All Night Graduation Party will take place at the Reston Community Center the night of graduation. Students will play various games and will win many prizes. One lucky winner will have the opportunity to win a brand new Ford Focus.
