Arhaus Furniture is hosting an open house and hiring event on Monday, June 9, 5-6:30 p.m., at the Hilton Garden Inn, 3950 Fair Ridge Drive, Fairfax. Arhaus, an upscale furniture retailer, is opening a new store in August at the Fairfax Corner retail center, 4218 East Ave., Fairfax.

Potomac Bank of Virginia will open a new banking office at 9910 Main St. in the City of Fairfax in mid-summer. The new office will be located in the Fairfax Square commercial development. In addition to offering a full range of banking services, the office will also house the administrative offices of the Bank. Nancy Krause will be the vice president and manager of the Fairfax City office. Krause recently joined Potomac Bank of Virginia from BB&T Bank, where she was vice president and relationship manager. The Bank's new offices will include a full-service branch, along with the executive offices, finance, business lending, an expanded home mortgage services department, loan administration and operations. Approximately 27 bank employees will be located at the new site.

J. Coury Macdonald, Esq., has been appointed to the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys' Board of Governors. Macdonald is a principal of the Law Firm of Steffan & Macdonald L.L.C., which has offices in Fairfax and Washington, D.C. In his new capacity, Macdonald will serve as an advisor and help guide the direction of the rational member organization. Board members participate in research and development and provide feedback on all new Academy products and services.

Patricia R. Phelps, a legal assistant with the Northern Virginia law firm of McCandlish & Lillard, P.C., was selected by the Fairfax Bar Association to be the recipient of the 2003 Dennis Duffy Citizenship Award for her volunteer work with area animal shelters, animal rescue leagues and the Fairfax Pets-on-Wheels program. The annual award recognizes a local resident who has demonstrated a long-term commitment to volunteer service in an area outside his or her profession.

The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) opened a new store on May 19 in the Courthouse Plaza Shopping Center, 10308 Willard Way. Store hours will be Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. The store will carry approximately 1,100 items and occupy 3,000 square feet of retail space and will offer liquors, cordials and specialty items.
