We moved again! For the third time in three years! It's exciting to move, buying a "new" house and making new friends. But how easy is it, really, to make a new friend? If you have kids in school, you might meet someone at "Back to School Night." Or not. You might get a welcoming visit from a neighbor or two. Or no. So many women are working (for a paycheck) these days.
One way to make a lot of friends is to join McLean Newcomers Club. We are a social organization made up of newcomers and some not-so-new-comers from McLean and its environs. Its purpose is to create new friendships, to provide opportunities for socializing and to acquaint residents with the community. We have many group activities, including coffees on the first Wednesday of every month at 10:30 a.m. in a private home. We have potluck luncheons, a book group, bridge groups, play groups, local tours, and more!
Now, if you're like me, you think, "I have to unpack each and every box and get organized. Then, I can think about taking some time for me. Maybe."
Well, all that is true, but you also need to get some suggestions on doctors and restaurants and just hear another adult's voice and see a friendly, welcoming smile. We can help with all these things, we've all been through it - numerous times!
Personally, I find McLean to be filled with highly educated people who have led incredibly interesting lives. Some of the women I've met at Newcomers have been in the foreign service and have traveled the world. Some are artists, others lawyers, Realtors, teachers and the list goes on. With the proximity to the Nation's Capital, there are so many activities and sites to see. And it's much more fun to avail yourself of these amenities with a group of like-minded people.
Joining McLean Newcomers has been one of the best things I have done for myself and I highly recommend it to everyone I meet.
