Local host families are sought for French high-school students studying in the United States this summer. The International Center for Language Studies in Washington, D.C., will have 15-20 students. Families will be asked to provide room and board, help facilitate the students’ use of public transportation, and include them in weekend activities that will enhance their American experience. Incidental costs will be paid. A stipend will be given to each host family. Call 202-639-8800 to apply.

Jeremy Klem of Vienna, Class of 2004, has been selected to participate in the National Student Leadership Conference on International Diplomacy, a leadership development program for outstanding high-school students.
On Wednesday, July 9, a reception and open house were held for the recently completed home at 1203 Artnauman Court in Spring Hill, which was built by more than 60 students from seven high schools in the county over the past two years. The house is a product of a unique, community-based construction technology program in Fairfax County, the result of a partnership between Fairfax County Public Schools and the Foundation for Applied Technical Education Inc.
John Brittain, son of Mr. and Mrs John S. Brittain Jr. of Great Falls, was recently named to the honor roll at the Taft School.
Nora Jameson, a rising junior at Madison High School and representing Sportrock Climbing Gyms, competed in the national championships of the United Sates Competitive Climbing Association, held in Richmond.
Shannon Conners, the daughter of Mike Conners and Susan Turco of McLean, graduated from Randolph-Macon Academy on May 31. During her time there, Conners participated in basketball, softball, track and field, volleyball and chorus. She was also named to the dean's list several times for achieving a grade point average between 3.3 and 3.9.
