<sh>Supervisors Approve Enterprise

<bt>Enterprise Rent-A-Car got a green light on Monday from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. It already has a clerical office in the Chantilly Expo Center area, but needed the county's approval before it could expand its services there.

Now that Enterprise has received it, customers will be able to pick up and drop off their rental cars at that location, too. And because weekend parking near the Expo Center is often at a premium, Enterprise will have its own marked, reserved spaces for storing and parking its rental cars.

<sh>Beer Plant's Expansion OK'd

<bt>Oglethorpe Ltd. Partnership can toast its success. This Chantilly beer distributor received a thumbs-up, Monday, from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to expand its plant. Oglethorpe plans to enlarge its existing building at the northeast corner of Braddock and Old Lee roads in the Westfields Corporate Center.

But because part of the facility will spill over onto a particular type of industrially zoned land, it needs a special permit to do so. In exchange, at the county's request, Oglethorpe has also agreed to build some 936 feet of trail along Braddock Road, near where the county Park Authority will be building a bridge over a creek.

<sh>Clifton Road Section Closing

<bt>A one-mile section of Clifton Road, from Maple Branch to Wolf Run Shoals Road, will close to through traffic for 30 days, beginning Monday, July 28, at 7 a.m. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) says it's necessary to allow bridge crews to replace the bridge over Swift Run.

Detour signs will direct motorists to use Clifton Road to Wolf Run Shoals Road to Chapel Road to Clifton Road. Although motorists may expect some inconvenience, completely closing the road will enable crews to complete construction in less than half the time it would take if the roadway were to remain partially open during the work. Some 4,900 vehicles a day travel this section of Clifton Road; the safety-improvement project will cost $120,000.

<sh>Library Invites Readers To Donate Books

<bt>Fairfax County Public Library Foundation Inc. invites residents, foundations and businesses to donate books to the Fairfax County Public Library through its recently-launched Amazon.com Wish List program. The Wish List is designed to enhance the Library’s collection; interested donors may access the Library’s Wish List from a link on the Library Foundation’s Web site at www.fcplfoundation.org.

Thousands of people are on the Library’s waiting lists to check out popular books and bestsellers, and due to current budget constraints, the Library does not have enough copies to satisfy demand. The Library’s list of high-demand books can be purchased through their Wish List on Amazon.com, and by donating one of these books to the Library, donors can meet a specific need.

For more information about the Library Foundation, call 703-324-8300 or e-mail info@fcplfoundation.org.
