Police Seek Help
Investigators from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division Homicide/Sex Section need additional help from the community regarding the Feb. 8 homicide of 39-year-old Vanessa Yvette Johnson-Sosin from the 14200 block of Masterpiece Lane in North Potomac.
Fire/Rescue personnel discovered the body of Ms. Johnson-Sosin inside the InStyle Consignment Shop at 18 West Montgomery Avenue in Rockville when responding to a reported fire. The victim’s injuries were not consistent with the fire, and her death is being investigated as a homicide.
Montgomery County Police investigators are still interested in hearing from anyone who can help locate a woman who was seen leaving the consignment shop the afternoon of the day of the fire. She is described as a 30- to 40-year-old black female with a large build. The day of the fire, she was seen wearing a black, puffy, perhaps down-filled coat with a hemline above the knee, and a black pill-box-style hat with ear flaps. She was seen carrying several shopping bags. The woman appeared to be known by the victim.
On March 31, detectives released a description of a distinctly-designed mink coat that the victim had worn to the shop the day of the fire and was not found in the shop after the fire. The coat is described a full-length black mink and black fox coat with vertical striping of the mink pelts and a black fox collar and front trim.
Anyone who may have information pertinent to this case is asked to call 240-773-5070 or 1-800-673-2777. The individual who called on Monday, July 14, is asked to call again. There is a $11,000 cash reward for information leading to the identity, arrest, and indictment of the person(s) responsible for the homicide.
