Alcohol Suspected in Accident

A Fairfax County teacher was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and for hit and run following an accident on Thursday, July 17, at about 5:30 p.m., according to Fairfax County Police.

The police said that Tomiana Trimm, 39, of 6900 block of Conservation Drive of Springfield, was driving a 1995 Ford Explorer, making a right turn from Sydenstricker Road onto Old Keene Mill Road. According to police, Trimm lost control in the turn and crossed the median. Trimm then hit a 1998 Ford SUV, driven by Laura Casey, 31, of the Springfield area, and also hit a 1996 Toyota four-door sedan, driven by Deepak Chadha, 20, also a resident in the Springfield area. Casey was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The momentum of the crash pushed the Toyota into a 2001 Porsche coupe, driven by 29-year-old Burke resident Timothy Wauhop.

Trimm allegedly drove off, turning right onto Keene Drive from Old Keene Mill Road, and crashed into a 1988 Cadillac sedan, driven by James Hawkins, 49, of the Springfield area. Trimm again fled the scene and was located on Sydenstricker Road by police officers and was taken into custody. She was taken to the Adult Detention Center and held on $3,000 bond.

Trimm is a teacher at William Halley Elementary School in Fairfax Station and was planning to start classes in September. According to school spokesperson Mary Shaw, "The teacher is going to be suspended without pay when her contract period starts in August," she said.

Shaw would not comment on any details about Trimm but added that the matter will be decided after the case goes to court.

"If they need to take any further action after the trial, that will be decided," she said.
