Fairfax County has awarded Connex/Yellow Transportation a five-year management and operations contract for the Reston/Herndon Division of the Fairfax Connector. The company will operate all of the Connector bus service on more than 50 routes with 163 buses. The first year of the contract has a $10.7 million value and starts Aug. 31, 2003.
Herndon-based EDS expects to receive $98 million due from MCI in respect of pre-bankruptcy receivables from their client later this year. Both parties intend to request that the bankruptcy court approve the prompt payment of the amount, which is due no later than July 7, 2003.
Herndon-based ePlus inc., a provider of Enterprise Cost Management (ECM) solutions, announced record net earnings of $9.7 million for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2003, a 9 percent increase as compared to $8.9 million recorded the prior fiscal year.
The Associated Landscape Contractors of America, based in Herndon, have developed a new Web site with the help of online solutions provider Kintera Inc. The Web site, www.alca.org, was designed to become a "go to" place for member to access information about everything to do with the landscaping industry.
HPTi (High Performance Technologies, Inc.), based in Herndon, has been placed on the list of Greater Washington D.C. Region's Best Workplaces for Commuters, which recognizes employers that are "committed to reducing traffic and air pollution and improving qualify of life for commuters." Chosen employers offer their employees commuting benefits like free or heavily discounted transit passes, vanpool subsidies, preferred parking for car and vanpools, bike commuter facilities, onsite day care, and telecommuting.
The list was compiled by the Greater Washington D.C. Region's Best Workplaces for Commuters Coalition, which includes Commuter Connections, General Services Administration, Greater Washington Board of Trade, Metropolitan Washington Work/Life Coalition, National Capital Planning Commission, U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

The Commonwealth of Virginia’s Joint Commission on Technology and Science has appointed Dennis D. Husch of Herndon to the Hard Sciences Advisory Committee for an interim term that expires Jan. 14, 2004. The Committee is involved in determining the Commonwealth’s capabilities to contribute to and benefit from new technologies including nanotechnology, biotechnology, physical sciences and disease management.
Husch has been a member of the Herndon Town Council since 1994 and is a program manager with Argon Engineering in Fair Lakes. Husch has served as a member of a number of local organizations including the Hispanic Task Force, the Herndon Telecommunications and Management Information Technology Advisory Group and the Council for the Arts of Herndon.
