Town and Country School of Vienna will host an open house on Saturday, July 12, 1-3 p.m., at their facility located at 9525 Leesburg Pike, Vienna. The open house is a chance to meet the staff, tour the school and learn more about the programs for students, pre-school through sixth grade. The Vienna Youth Inc. (VYI), a nonprofit youth sports organization, hosted its seventh annual Scholarship and Hall of Fame Banquet on Wednesday, June 18. At the banquet, VYI awarded partial scholarships to 24 students who maintained a 3.0 grade point average during high school while serving as role models to their peers and performing community service. Recipients will attend accredited four-year universities in the fall.

Magellan, Andrew Baird, Joy Elizabeth DiLillo, Parker Ramsdell, Erin Manfredi, Jane Miner, Jennifer Ann Lou, Erin L. Henshaw, Dominique Dupras, Mark B. Gleason, Paul Doupe, Katherine Shontz, Sean Thomas McVey, John Timothy Stranix, Courtney Ann Gjourmand, Patricia Michelle Orfini, Drew Morgan, Laura Elizabeth Peterson, Glenna Marie Kibler, James R. Newbold, Billy Tinsley and Patrick Corey McCahill.

Local host families are sought for French high-school students studying in the United States this summer. The International Center for Language Studies in Washington, D.C., will have 15-20 students. Families will be asked to provide room and board, help facilitate the students’ use of public transportation, and include them in weekend activities that will enhance their American experience. Incidental costs will be paid. A stipend will be given to each host family. Call 202-639-8800 to apply.

Whitney Delphos of McLean has been elected to attend this summer's Governor's School for Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Richmond. She was nominated by her high school, St. Andrew's Episcopal, a private school in Maryland.

Bryce Snape of McLean has been named a Furman Scholar for 2003 at Furman University. Furman Scholars are invited to attend a special gathering on campus in April that honors their academic achievements and better acquiants them with the school. Furman Scholars who are accepted for admission to the university are guaranteed to receive a tuition scholarship of $3,500.

Fairfax County Public Schools' school business partners Interstate Worldwide Relocation and Flint Hill Elementary School teamed up for a musical production when the sixth grade strings group performed at Interstate's corporate office in Springfield on June 13. The 30-member orchestra featured soloists Amanda Miller, Christina Guenther, Audrey Heaton and Max Spokony and performed songs such as "America the Beautiful" and "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." The surprise finale included a song titled "Interstate Worldwide," which was sung to the tune of the "Spongebob Squarepants" theme song. After the concert the group toured the facility and were treated to pizza and cookies in the company's community room.

Interstate Worldwide Relocation premiered an art gallery at its headquarters in Springfield as part of an ongoing partnership with Flint Hill Elementary School. Students' artwork is displayed in the community room. New pictures will rotate through the gallery throughout the next school year.

Marlyn Hutton was promoted from administrative intern to assistant principal at Marshall High School.

Laraine Edwards was promoted from assistant principal at Flint Hill to principal at Stenwood.

Taylor Chenault Newby, son of Donna R. Taylor of McLean, was named to the honor roll at Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa. Taylor is in grade 10.
