It's bad enough to drive on a revoked license, but doing so while drunk and then striking a police officer while resisting arrest only makes matters worse.
Fairfax County police say a 44-year-old Fairfax man did all three things, and they charged him accordingly. He is Ryan Fry of 12723 Lee Highway.
The incident in question occurred Saturday, around 6:45 p.m., on Route 29 (Lee Highway) and Summit Drive in the Crystal Springs community. Police say Officer O.J. Faulk of the Fair Oaks District Station saw Fry driving on Route 29 in a green pickup truck.
However, because of a previous encounter, the officer knew that Fry's license had been revoked. Faulk then activated his cruiser's lights and siren and Fry stopped his vehicle in the parking lot of the Pleasant Acres Motel at 12723 Lee Highway.
When Fry got out of his truck, Faulk told him that he was under arrest and that he should stop right there. Instead, say police, Fry tried to enter a room and, when Faulk tried to place him under arrest, police say Fry allegedly resisted and hit the officer twice.
A struggle ensued and, with help from other officers, Faulk was able to arrest the man. Police charged him with assault on a police officer, driving while intoxicated and driving on a revoked license.
Faulk was not injured, but Fry was taken to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was then transported to the Adult Detention Center and was released Tuesday on $20,000 bond. He has a March 4 court date.
