The Moose Lodge at 9616 Courthouse Road awaits county approval for a project that would create a new building for its social quarters.
The proposal, a new one-story building that will replace the current social quarters, will increase square footage and provide members with a new ventilation system, a larger bathroom and game room, and more office space.
"Overall, we just need new facilities," said William B. McGraw, administrator for Vienna's Moose order.
The new building will be built on the grounds of the old building, which was a former house that the order bought in 1967. The old building will be torn down and the new building will be rebuilt in its place. It will connect to the Lodge Hall.
McGraw hopes to have the project completed within the next year and a half. The proposal will face a public hearing in front of the Fairfax County Planning Commission on Jan. 23, in the Board Auditorium of the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway. Those interested in testifying during the public hearing should call the county Planning Commission office, at 703-324-2865, TTY 703-324-7951.
"We have to expand to make things better for the future," McGraw said.
The Loyal Order of Vienna Moose was established in December 1958 and currently has over 500 members. It moved to its current site on Courthouse Road in 1967.
