John Charles Gaver, 51

John (Jack) Charles Gaver died in his home on Feb. 20, 2003. He was born in Munich, Germany on May 20, 1951 to the late Barbara Harvey Gaver and the late Pierce H. Gaver, Jr.

Gaver struggled all of his life with hemophilia and its many debilitating side effects. An accomplished swimmer and gymnast, he once had the opportunity to compete against Olympic swimmer Mark Spitz.

Gaver was also a Reston, Va. pioneer as a teenager, becoming the first president of the Reston Rathskeller teen center. Gaver had been a fixture in Reston for years, often times found strumming his guitar on the steps of Lake Anne Plaza enjoying and participating in the Reston community.

Survivors include brothers Stanley B. Gaver, Richard F. Gaver, Michael P. Gaver and sister Elizabeth A. Gaver; sister-in-law Barbara H. Gaver, nephew Matthew Gaver, and nieces Katherine Gaver and Jennifer Gaver.

Services for Jack Gaver will be Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Washington Plaza Baptist Church in Reston.
