Janice L. Gentry
Janice Leona Phillips Gentry, 54, coordinator for Adult Education programs in the Arlington Public Schools, died at home of cancer on Jan. 30, 2003.
She was born in Baltimore in 1948, but was a resident of Virginia since 1985, and had attended George Mason University. Prior to returning to the Washington, D.C., region in 1985, Janice Gentry accompanied Lt. Col. Lee Gentry, her husband of 34 years, to a number of assignments, including Taiwan, California, Arizona, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
She worked as the secretary for the Superintendent of the Taipei American Schools in Taiwan from 1983-85, and then worked as an administrative assistant in the Principal Assessment Center at George Mason University until 1993. She then moved to the position of coordinator of Adult Education with Arlington Public Schools. Mrs. Gentry expanded the program, hired teachers, and developed the curriculum to include courses in computer applications, foreign languages, and a variety of professional courses.
In addition to her husband, now of Fairfax, survivors include three children, Landon W. Gentry of Scotts Valley, Calif., Scott A. Gentry of Denver, Erin L. Gentry of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and two grandchildren. Her mother and father, two sisters, and two brothers also survive her.
Patricia Rodgers White
Patricia Rodgers White, 70, of Winchester, Va., and formerly of Arlington, died Dec. 15 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. White was born Sept. 7, 1932, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of the late Joseph and Melly Flexner Rodgers. She was first a devoted wife and loving mother. She had retired as a registrar for Life Underwriters Training Council in Bethesda, Md., and more recently had worked part-time at Shenandoah Art Gallery in Winchester.
She married Robert H. White on April 13, 1956, in Baltimore, Md. Surviving with him are a daughter, Melissa White of Arlington; a son, Christopher White of Winchester; a sister, Mary Lou Rutzky of Palatine, Ill.; and two brothers, Dr. Allan Rodgers of Winchester and James Rodgers of Manassas.
