<sh>Juvenile Missing for Two Weeks
<bt>Fairfax County Police are asking the public to aid in locating James Fitzsimmons, 13, of Jermantown Road in the Oakton area. Fitzsimmons ran away from his home on Tuesday, Jan. 14, after arguing with his mother. No one has seen nor heard from Fitzsimmons since he left.
Fitzsimmons was last seen wearing black jeans, a black shirt, and a black-colored jacket. He is 5 foot 9 inches, weighs 135 pounds and has short, straight, red hair and brown eyes.
Anyone who has seen Fitzsimmons or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call police immediately at 703-691-2131.
<sh>Convenience Store Robbed
<bt>On January 24, at about 4 p.m., a man entered the Super Highs store in the 7700 block of Gunston Plaza and bought a pack of candy.
About five minutes later, the man returned to purchase cigarettes. The clerk, a 28-year-old Lorton area man, asked for identification. A brief exchange of words took place between the two, and the customer allegedly brandished a handgun, vaulted the counter and announced a robbery.
The clerk handed over cash from both registers, as well as a deposit bag. The suspect was last seen running south through the shopping center.
According to police, the suspect was described as black, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed 155 pounds. He was wearing a black coat and black jeans.
<sh>Arrest Made in Abduction Case
<bt>Fairfax County Police reported that an Annandale area woman, 29, was walking to her home last week, when a man allegedly grabbed her and threw her to the ground. The victim's roommate observed the incident from their apartment window and ran outside to assist.
As the suspect fled the scene, he lost both his shoes. K-9 Officer Dave Simpson and his partner, Chase, tracked to the 4600 block of John Hancock Court, where the suspect was found hiding behind the washers and dryers in a laundry room.
Police arrested Nery Artemio Juarez-Campos, 22, charging him with abduction.
<sh>News Carrier Assaulted
<bt>On Jan. 30 at 2:45 a.m., a 21-year-old Burke area man, was waiting in his vehicle near the intersection of Ridgeford Drive and Brook Ford Road for bundles of newspapers to be delivered, when a small, dark-colored car pulled in behind him.
Three men exited the vehicle, approached the driver's side window and asked for directions. The news carrier rolled down his window and one man punched the victim in the face several times. The suspects demanded money and the victim replied that he had none.
The victim was able to flee his vehicle through the passenger's side and he ran to his home. The victim told his relatives, who went out with him to look for the suspects. The victim did not report the incident for approximately 15 minutes. The suspects were described as Hispanic, in their 20s and wearing dark clothing.
<sh>Cat Spray Painted
<bt>On Jan. 29, about 12:45 p.m., a cat named "Buddy," who lives on Milford Court in the Springfield area, was brought into the Springfield Animal Hospital after being spray painted. The cat was almost completely covered with a pinkish red hair dye. Other than the paint, the cat was not injured.
According to the Animal Control Division of the Fairfax County Police, this was the second time this had happened in a five-day period, but the first case was not reported.
<sh>Safety Seats Needed
<bt>Fairfax County Police are investigating an accident with injury that occurred in the Fairfax area about Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11:45 p.m.
According to police, 22-year-old Chandra Owen of Rhoden Court in the Springfield area, was driving east on Braddock Road near Burke Station Road when she allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel of her 1995 Saturn station wagon. Her 8-month-old son, who was not properly fastened in his safety seat, was ejected from the car and landed on the roadway. He sustained only minor injuries.
Owen and her 2-year-old daughter, who was also not properly fastened in the seat, also sustained non-life threatening injuries. Owen was charged with reckless driving and a child safety seat violation according to police.
In response to incidents like this, Fairfax County Police Officers from the West Springfield District Station along with the Traffic Safety Division will be conducting a child safety seat inspection on Thursday, Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The inspection will take place in the parking lot of the Target Store at 10301 New Guinea Road in Burke.
