Car Crash Kills Chantilly Man, 27

A Chantilly man, 27, was killed early Saturday morning in a violent car crash on Walney Road, and the car's driver has been charged with manslaughter. The victim was Thomas Bolt Jr. of the Brookside community.

According to Fairfax County police, he was the front-seat passenger in a two-door, 2003 Acura RSX driven by Gregory Park Moldenhauer, 25, of 9334 Tartan View Drive in Fairfax. The tragedy occurred around 12:30 a.m., and police say both speed and alcohol were factors.

Moldenhauer was driving north on Walney Road, near E.C. Lawrence Park but, as he approached Walney Park Drive, say police, "He lost control of the car, crossed over the southbound lanes, struck an embankment" and then slammed into a tree. The Acura came to rest, partially overturned, on its passenger side.

Bolt, who was not wearing a seltbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Moldenhauer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was Medevaced to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Since then, police have filed a warrant charging Moldenhauer with manslaughter. It will be served when he is released from the hospital. If convicted, he could receive as much as 10 years in prison.
